Interoception – The Inner Sense That Governs Pain, Panic, and Collapse

What Is Interoception?

Interoception is your brain’s ability to sense & interpret the internal state of your body — things like:

• Heart rate

• Breathing rhythm

• Blood pressure

• Gut tension

• Temperature

• Pain and discomfort

• Visceral organ feedback

It’s like proprioception, but instead of knowing where your limbs are in space, interoception tells you how your insides feel.

Where Does It Happen?

• Interoception is processed primarily in the insula & anterior cingulate cortex of the brain.

• It pulls data from C-fibers, vagal nerve signals, & chemoreceptors in your organs & blood vessels.

Why It Matters in Martial Arts (Kyusho/Tuite):

1. Overloading interoception = Autonomic crash

• When you strike or manipulate points that affect baroreceptors (like ST9) or vagus nerve zones (like GB20 or CV22), you flood the interoceptive system.

• This can trigger:

• Dizziness

• Panic

• Nausea

• Fainting

• Even emotional breakdowns (seen in some revivals)

2. Tuite manipulates internal sensation

• When you torque a joint, twist fascia, or compress nerves, it doesn’t just create pain — it alters internal perception.

• The brain goes: “Something’s wrong inside — I must shut down or escape.”

That’s why even light locks, when applied with proper rotational tension & pressure point engagement, feel disproportionately intense — they’re messing with how safe the body feels from the inside out.

Interoception in Healing & Revivals

• Gentle massage at CV17, GB20, or SP6 during revival work can reset vagal tone & soothe interoceptive panic

• Deep breathing & pressure at CV6 (Sea of Qi) stabilize the body’s internal awareness.

There are SO MANY mechanisms at play in Kyusho and Tuite, along with martial arts in general, that are based in factual science that one would be a fool to dismiss it or not study it!

Understand the Science. Master the Art! 🐼
