Lesson: Jing-Well Points — Gateways to Shock & Revival
What Are Jing-Well Points?
Jing-Well points are the first or last points on each meridian in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), located at the tips of fingers & toes.
According to TCM:
• They represent extremes of energy flow
• They’re linked to reviving consciousness, especially in cases of shock, collapse, or acute dysfunction
From a biomedical perspective, these points lie over dense nerve clusters (distal cutaneous nerves) & terminal branches of digital arteries — making them neurologically & circulatorily significant.
Martial Arts & Kyusho Application:
These points are used in two powerful ways:
1. Neurological Disruption
• A sudden strike or squeeze to a Jing-Well point (like LU11, HT9, or SP1) can send an intense proprioceptive & nociceptive spike to the spinal cord
• This can trigger withdrawal reflexes, startle, or even momentary neurological “reboot” (faint, flinch, freeze)
2. Revival Techniques
• In resuscitation methods (like those used in DKI & classical Chinese medicine), needle or fingernail stimulation of these points can stimulate the brainstem & autonomic system
• For example:
• LI1 (index finger) for fainting
• SP1 (big toe) for blood pressure regulation
• PC9 (middle finger) for heart rhythm or shock
These are thought to work by stimulating cutaneous nerves & vascular baroreceptors, alerting the brainstem reticular activating system — like a slap to “wake up” the system.
Tactical Insight for Tuite:
• Grabbing or twisting fingers/toes activates Jing-Well points as part of a lock
• Combining this with joint rotation can cause autonomic instability or flinching
• Used correctly, it enhances compliance or collapses resistance without needing brute force
Bonus Layer:
Jing-Well points are also associated with emotional & mental states in TCM.
Disrupting them can momentarily shift mood, alertness, or aggression, making them useful in de-escalation scenarios.
